Every Block a Battle

The Man with Black Hands watched through his scope as the Renault drove into the distance, his British target in the front seat along with his old friend. He didn’t have to keep watching to know they were going to Khartoum. Where else could they go?

Setting down his Barrett Model 82A1 rifle, he took a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped away the oily black residue that had accumulated in his fingerprints until there was only a thin layer of the sand that covered everything else in this country. As clean as he was going to get, he took out his satphone and quick-dialed the only contact in it.

“Hey,” the Man with Black Hands said when the ringing stopped, “three guesses who’s still alive.”
